Explore Tram Chim National Park in Dong Thap

Tram Chim national park has a magic beauty of the heart of Plain of Reeds (Dong Thap Muoi) and many kinds of beautiful birds. This national park was created to protect several rare birds, especially the sarus cranee, a species listed in the IUCN Red List.

Where is Tram Chim National Park?

The park is located in Dong Thap Muoi, Tam Nong district, Dong Thap province, and around 6 hours driving from Ho Chi Minh City. 

Biodiversity Values of Tram Chim National Park

With a system of swamps, grass-plots, and crossing canals, the over 7.500 ha Tram Chim National Park has become an ideal habitat of more than 100 vertebrates, 40 species of fish, and 147 rare and precious species of birds. Hence, it is also an ideal place for scientists to research the life of migratory birds.

Best Time to visit Tram Chim National Park

Tram Chim is best visited in the early mornings and late afternoons in all year time but the perfect time is the dry season between December and May. During this time, birds will fly back from their migration places. Therefore, you may have a chance to observe a wide range of different birds in the sky. Especially, if you travel from February to May, you have the opportunity to observe the sarus crane - a bird species listed in the Global Red Book.

What to Do in Tram Chim National Park

This wonderful land offered many great activities to join. If you do not have much free time, you can consider some activities below:

 1. Take a boat to do sightseeing

The unique transportation through the park is “tac rang”- a typical small motorboat in southern Vietnam. Sitting on a boat, viewing a magnificent natural picture created by thousands of lotus, and smell the freshening aroma of them will make you feel as in heaven.

There are 2 routes that you can choose:

  • Route no.5, 12km: Welcome area – Phu Duc 2 – C4 – Welcome area

  • Rote no.3, 21km: Welcome area – Phu Duc 2 – Cun Canal – Welcome area

 2. See a panoramic view of the park

At each rest stops in the park, you can climb up about 20-meter observation deck and see the view of a large part using a telescope.

 3. Try some typical cuisine

Some delicious specialties that are mostly recommended by tourists here are crab hotpot, crispy fried fish, fish sauce hot pot and braised fish in clay pot, grilled snakehead fish... If you come here, do not forget to enjoy some of them, you will be amazed by the amazing cuisine of Mekong Delta Vietnam.

Tips on visiting Tram Chim

  • Mosquito repellent is highly suggested when you come to visit Tram Chim National Park
  • In case you want to have some pictures with birds, nature-look clothes should be prepared 
  • If you want to eat more, you can bring some cakes and fruits from home but please, throw the trash in the right place to save the environment
