In Ho Chi Minh city, not many people know that there is a coffee shop where displays many historical artifacts associated with “Biet Dong Sai Gon” from 1968 - 1975.
Located at 287/72 Nguyen Dinh Chieu, District 3, “Do Phu” coffee shop which consists of three floors, an area of about 70 m2, is looking like a normal house, but it has a solid cellar system, the aisles are camouflaged under the bricks and specialized in hiding cadres and stored about 2 tons of weapons guns, ammunition, and grenades before 1975.
In 1968, a member of Biet Dong Saigon named Tran Van Lai, with his wife and family, built 2 secret weapon cellars at their house located amid the enemy. In the Lunar New year of 1968, Biet Dong Saigon took weapons from this cellar to take and captured the Independence Palace as well as many other important targets.
The coffee shop still keeps classical architecture with many stylized features, brick floor, tile roof ... as the original, allowing visitors to return to Ho Chi Minh City in the 60s and 70s. Since 2018, the weapon cellar is opened to visitors.
This is one of the interesting destinations that you should not miss when visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
